some current obsessions

coveting, not owning:

- Aromaleigh's "You're a Doll" Spring 2007 Elegant Gothic Lolita Collection kit. The colours look lovely and I've heard only good things about their cosmetics. But they don't ship outside the US and its $90, so I can only dream.

- This Tarina Tarantino necklace, in violet. I think TT's Hello Kitty stuff is hideous but everything else is cool in a really over the top, "seriously blingin'" way. This necklace should be round my neck, and it would be if I could afford it and wanted to spend that much money on jewellery.

- Domiknitrix. I had a look through it in Waterstone's and the patterns are beautiful! I really like the tone that it is written in and Jennifer Stafford gives good advice as well. I am definitely going to get this at some point.

- Boring Sydney's astoundingly terrific hats, as blogged about by absolutely everyone. Well, okay, just Queen Michelle, Tricia Royal and Ashe Romance. That's enough for me to call "everyone". They have completely put me in a 1920s/flapper fashion mood. Perhaps if I make myself a flapper dress using this tutorial (in a dark green fabric with black lace, beads and flower, I am imagining) I can reward myself with one of those hats...must control spending, must control spending...

within my possession and muchly loved:

- It's not strictly in my possession yet but I am madly impatient for my Enchant and A Bit O' This & That CDs and t-shirt to arrive! Some Emilie Autumn fans in other countries have got theirs already and taken photos to prove it (and the Digibook packaging looks gorgeous) whilst I am still waiting for Music Non Stop to hurry up and send it. Apparently they're releasing it on the 22nd, but I think I opted for second-class mail so it might take a bit longer to get to me.

- A related obsession is the song Faces Like Mine (download it for free here). I am trying to learn all the words but that is a bit difficult because there are one or two words that no one seems to be able to hear properly - it's a old recording and the quality isn't excellent.

- My tiara! Still. I wore it in public yesterday! Okay, I was just moving stuff from my house to my parents' car and then sitting in the car going home, but my mum is starting to get used to it. She asked me if I wore it all the time and I smiled and said "Only when I have company," which isn't true, but I was just teasing her. I'm sure the thought of me wearing a tiara amongst other humans horrifies her. In reality I find myself putting it on when I'm alone or indoors at least once a day, because it cheers me up. Hours of fun and happiness, for £1.95! I have yet to wear it in public properly, but I anticipate taking it to the Students' Union on a night out once uni starts back up again. I also anticipate having to fend off drunken people who want to try it on.

- Meez! Hours of fun, or at least ten minutes. The best items you can dress your avatar up in cost "Coinz" (yes, I know, the 'z's are annoying), which theoretically you have to pay real money for, but if you sign up and subscribe to the e-mail newsletter then you get five Coinz free every issue. I used the last five Coinz to get a Marie Antoinette wig. Would you believe I haven't seen that film yet? I am expecting to love the aesthetics but hate everything else about it. To the side you can see my Meez as myself, and in an Emilie Autumn-tastic outfit, including that Marie Antoinette wig. You can get curly pink hair - but I just felt like using the wig.

- Wavy hair. I plait my hair whilst wet (and after washing it without conditioner, for best results), then leave it plaited overnight and undo it the next day. It makes me look more like my Meez avatar...

- Reincarnate shampoo from Lush. My hair loves this stuff. I love the smell. I keep it in an old cocoa tin and when I open the lid the scent wafts out and it is lovely. I could quite happily smell it all day. I often find myself trying to smell my hair to see if I can detect any traces. Didn't they warn you that I am deeply strange?

- Making Stuff: An Alternative Craft Book. It's really good! It contains projects divided into five different sections - clothing, jewellery, home, random stuff and kids stuff (either for kids to craft or to use) . The introduction, which gives a history of the craft resurgence, is interesting and accurate. I think I will do a longer review after I've made some of the projects.

What's your obsession this second? See what I did there?
